The memorial for Fritz Bauer is made up of two parts: A stone and two bronze plaques.
The stone is a metamorphite, a stone that has been formed in the very depths of the earth under enormous pressure and heat. Only the tip of the stone embedded in the ground in front of the Higher Regional Court juts out from the paving slabs. Two bronze plaques accompany the stone. One features a quote of Fritz Bauer: “You should know there is an iceberg, and we only see a small part of it but the greater part remains invisible to us.” The other plaque describes his work as Attorney General of the State of Hessen and his decisive role in bringing about the Auschwitz trials.
