A man (Björn Bürger) stands in front of a closed window and sings. Outside, a huge tree is all there is. And the fish in the pond, accompanied by the sound of the water and the chirping birds answer his song. Out of the depths, they rise up to the surface and open their mouths. Then the man opens the window and sings, at first very quietly, and then with the voice that gets stronger and stronger. Once again the chorus of the fishes responds. And if the song has done its bit, the face of a young woman appears. She looks around, unsure of herself. And then her eyes light up. Once again the fishes sing to her. And then an old woman (Clara Salvo) tells of the serenade from the land of the Carolingians and starts to sing it, accompanied by a guitar - with great concentration and power.
